JOHN P. NEWTON is a partner in the Knoxville law firm of Mayer & Newton where his areas of practice include bankruptcy and consumer law. Licensed in Tennessee since 1984, Mr. Newton has filed thousands of consumer bankruptcy cases and has been a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Panel Trustee for the Eastern District of Tennessee since 1985.

He has lectured to various professional groups on collections and bankruptcy issues. He is a member of the Knoxville, Tennessee and American Bar Associations. Mr. Newton earned his B.S. degree in finance, his M.B.A. degree in finance and his law degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

Mr. Newton is certified by the American Bankruptcy Board of Certification and the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization as a Consumer Bankruptcy Specialist.
