Once the final payment from the debtor is received by
the trustee, the case is audited to ensure that it has
been properly administered. After the audit, the trustee
sends a notice to the bankruptcy court, which in turn
mails a discharge notice to the debtor. As in Chapter
7, creditors are barred by federal law from attempting
to collect a discharged debt. It typically takes at least
90 days after the last payment is made before a discharge
notice is issued.
