Chapter 13 Bankruptcy

5. When Will I Receive A Discharge Of Debts?

Once the final payment from the debtor is received by the trustee, the case is audited to ensure that it has been properly administered. After the audit, the trustee sends a notice to the bankruptcy court, which in turn mails a discharge notice to the debtor. As in Chapter 7, creditors are barred by federal law from attempting to collect a discharged debt. It typically takes at least 90 days after the last payment is made before a discharge notice is issued.
